Soft washing cleans your roof with a low-pressure spray and a cleaning solution that removes the black streaks, algae, and mildew at the source, rather than blasting them off with force. The pressure is closer to a garden hose than a power washer, so nothing is driven under or into your shingles.
The dark streaks you see on Florida roofs are a blue-green algae called Gloeocapsa magma. It thrives in our heat, humidity, and shade. A soft wash treats and removes it; a hard rinse just knocks the surface off and it comes back faster.
Asphalt shingles are protected by a layer of tiny mineral granules, the gritty surface. Those granules are what shield the asphalt underneath from UV and weather. High-pressure washing strips them off. Once they're gone, the shingle ages faster, and you can't put them back.
